Happy 2nd Birthday, QP!

[ Posted by Ryan Rickerts Sat, 11 Apr 2009 00:30:58 GMT ]

We made it.

Susie, Ryan, Bandit, and Quincy made the trek over Snoqualmie Pass last weekend to Uncle Jerry’s house in The Dalles, OR (via Yakima). We met up with Grandma Jeni and my preggie sis Katie for a Ryan family celebration.

The weather was beautiful, with temps over 60 and relatively light winds. Everyone got some quality time with QP, while Ryan raced about 6.5 hours over 3 days in the Cherry Blossom Classic road race. On Saturday evening, Ryan got to show off his criterium racing skills for everyone while QP took a brief nap on Jerry’s shoulder, than back to his house for roast and cake. There’s nothing cuter than watching Quincy try to blow out her two candles with Grandma showing her how!  (we got vids)

Winter travels

[ Posted by Ryan Rickerts Wed, 04 Mar 2009 15:14:56 GMT ]

Now that Susie and I both have two weeks of vacation per year (thankfully!), our emerging pattern is to take one week in February and one in late September. Both are relatively quiet times of the year, as opposed to the Christmas/New Year’s block or the height of summer when school is out.

The other pattern is how to deal with the February vacation. This time of year Susie wants to battle the winter blahs and go somewhere warm. Ryan typically wants to go north and look for more snow. It’s a balancing act.

High and Dry

[ Posted by Ryan Rickerts Sun, 11 Jan 2009 06:07:02 GMT ]

Lots of crazy weather this winter!  I’m sure I don’t have to tell you.  I did want to tell you that neither of our houses (current rental nor the home at Toad Lake) have been damaged by the intense rain.  Yet…

Floods and mud slides have been seen around our county…

Merry Zmas

Dec. 25th was another lovely winter day in Bellingham.  We got the best present of all - a white Christmas! The arctic grip was finally released on Christmas Eve; we got rained on and things were looking messy (especially since very little shoveling happened over the week).  Luckily, it cooled off enough to drop some fat flakes on top of our snoggy snowpack and cover Santa’s tracks.

Quincy woke up about 7:30 (not too anxious yet), and B-lined straight for her new bike. We did a couple dozen laps around the house, and she got the hang of steering real quick!  She’s a few inches short to touch flat-footed, but we may find a different seat for the time being.  Won’t be long before she outgrows the whole bike, I’m sure.

Happy Holidays!

[ Posted by Ryan Rickerts Sun, 21 Dec 2008 06:04:27 GMT ]

It’s snowing again. We’ve had snow for over a week now, and I just don’t recall Bellingham staying this cold for this long.  Of course, the whole country is on a wild weather ride, it seems.  I’m certainly not complaining.  It’s just that I’ve been on such a roll with bike racing and training lately, it’s hard to break the rhythm.  Lots of cyclocross and track racing opportunities this fall, plus the weather was mostly awesome.

Welcome to Fall

[ Posted by Ryan Rickerts Fri, 17 Oct 2008 19:50:59 GMT ]

It has been awfully quiet on this website.  We have lots of good reasons.  Big one - we moved.  We found renters for our little place on Toad Lake and rented ourselves a family-sized place in town.  More on that later - once the interior decoration is all worked out, we can post some pictures.  The key thing for y’all to know is… a spare bedroom and extra bathroom for guests!  So please plan a visit.

We did it!

[ Posted by Ryan Rickerts Mon, 18 Aug 2008 13:52:58 GMT ]

We changed web hosts to DreamHost and upgraded the blog software to the latest version (Typo 5.1.2) at the same time, all while keeping my cool, custom Flickr galleries and YouTube feeds intact. The family was very supportive while I worked most of the weekend setting it up and getting familiarized, working out bugs, migrating databases, etc.

Still, we got some nice swimming in during the heat wave.  Susie even waded around Toad Lake for a while, and Lake Whatcom!  It must officially be summer (now that the leaves are starting to fall).

Salad Spinner

[ Posted by Ryan Rickerts Thu, 14 Aug 2008 18:01:21 GMT ]

The Rickerts are back online! I did some work last weekend and realized my old web host hadn't really shut my service off - they just stopped charging me! So I pointed our web address back over here until I finish setting up the new host.

I don't really want to post much new stuff, cause I'll just have to move it over to our new place, but we do have some really cute videos to tide you over. Check out the videos page and look for salad!

Quincy Walks the Talk

[ Posted by Ryan Rickerts Thu, 12 Jun 2008 08:16:04 GMT ]

Big news! Our little girl has been walking for over two weeks now, and it’s a ball.

It all started at Gerry’s BBQ for the Bandito’s Burritos Ski-to-Sea relay team, the Friday before Memorial Day. He has a nice, big back yard with smooth, lush grass and a badminton court. Lots of little kids were running around playing. Q.P. had just gotten a new pair of shoes from See Kai Run.

We’re not sure which was the magic ingredient she needed, but we do know it was just a lack of confidence keeping her from breaking free. She had been practicing so much, but always needing just one little finger on her for support. Finally she found her wings and is flying on her own!
